My style and a lesson

Sometimes my style gets the strangest comparisons to other artists.

Like yesterday, somebody commented on my dA saying my style was almost the same as Mellolover's D:

Drawing style? Eh..I suppose so. Only if you squint hard enough. Her stuff is more detailed too.

CGing style is like lolwat completely different orz

But eyedeekay, being compared to somebody 100x better than you is quite flattering but at the same time just kinda idsfjisodfjwoifjsoidfjso /shotkilled

It makes me want to improve more if I'm being compared to somebody like Mellolover, actually lol Putting one of my pieces next to hers just makes me go, "IFDSOFJDSOFIDS WHY IS MINE SO MUCH FAIL?"

But this is where I have to question the person's judgment LOL Either she's bullshitting me or she needs fucking glasses. It also might be my low self-esteem but y'know, that's not entirely the problem if it makes me want to improve, amirite? >_________>

Geh, I should just really learn how to stfu and take a compliment orz;;;

But I really like long comments like this one:

"I really love this picture. Your shading is smooth and choppy all at once, and it's really pleasing to the eye. I also like the fact that the basket ball even has a texture :D

The different shine to the eyes is gorgeous, ;3; and I even adore the wrinkles in the clothes. I've never seen this show but you totally rocked this picture on so many levels of hardcore. <333"

It shows that people actually pay attention to my art q__q *feels the love and support*

But lol, speaking of said picture, now's the time for my life lesson: Always save.

So yeah, yesterday, I was sketching out two pieces of fanart. One K-On and the other Basquash. I didn't feel like drawing out so many girls so I went ahead and started doing my usual CGing process for the latter one.

I started sketching it out at around 8pm or so but got distracted with things like MSN, Skype, and other animu, so I finished it coloring it around 3:30am. BUT my computer started acting like an ass and completely froze up on me when I was doing the final touch ups.

And let me tell you one thing, I have a habit of not saving anything until it's the final product. So once I'm done coloring on SAI, I flatten down all the layers, copypasta it onto Photoshop, and then start doing the touch ups. Not a single save.

This is where I start tensing up and going, "FDSFJODSFJIOSDF NO! PLEASE DON'T. NOT NOW!" All QQ'ing and stuff. So instead of restarting it, I sit there and wait for about 45mins, hoping that it'll start running again. Patience is a virtue after all.

I start getting sleepy since it was around 4am with nothing to do. So I turn off the monitor and hope that everything's running perfectly when I wake up in the morning.

15mins later, after I'm all snug in my bed, I hear my tower going, "VRRRRRN" and was like, "Oh yay! It started running again!"

So like the happy little eager fucker I am, I get out of bed and turn on my monitor only to find the start up screen. My computer restarted itself.

Of course, I start orz'ing and then I decided to fuck my life and go to sleep.

"Should've fucking saved before I fucking copypasta'd it," is all that went on in my head last night.

And of course, like the persistent fucker I am, when I woke up this morning I started redrawing it and everything. I'm a bit happier with this second attempt since it came out a lot better than the first. But fucking hell.

When I get started on CGing that K-On one, I'm going to fucking save bomb that shit 8|
